About Pender Island:
Pender Island is a pair of islands, North Pender and South Pender, connected by a bridge. The island is one of the Outer Gulf Islands and is accessible by ferry from both Swartz Bay (Vancouver Island) and Tsawwassen (Mainland BC). Pender Island is residence to approximately 2300 people and is a very rural community with limited community resources. There is a small clinic, an elementary/middle school, a local ambulance and fire service, a grocery store and a handful of restaurants and small businesses. Pender Island does not have public transportation, but does have a taxi service.

Plum Tree Court is a 7-unit housing complex located on North Pender Island. It is operated by the Pender Islands Housing Society (PIHS) under an agreement with BC Housing. Although PIHS is dedicated to tackling housing security for all ages, these seven units are specifically designated for 55+, with a preference for Pender Islands residents living on a lower income.
Six units are duplexes. Each unit is half of a duplex and approximately 600 square feet with a single bedroom, an open living-dining room, a small kitchen and single bathroom. Each unit is provided with a single parking spot, enclosed storage space attached to the unit, and a deck.
One unit is in a separate building that also houses the communal laundry room and maintenance garage. This is a one bedroom unit with an office and kitchenette.
The units are single level and have a ground entry without stairs, however the units were not designed to be accessible and do not accommodate residents with mobility constraints or in wheelchairs.
The operation of this site is subsidized by BC Housing. There are a variety of support options, which vary by unit.
Tenants must be able to live independently or source any services required as no supportive services are available.
